UTA Depot District Clean Fuels Technology Center
2023 UC&D Most Outstanding Industrial Project
The Utah Transit Authority (UTA) Depot District Clean Fuels Technology Center is a state-of-the-art maintenance and fueling facility dedicated to accommodating alternative fuel and clean air transit vehicles. Replacing the outdated Salt Lake Central Bus Garage, this cutting-edge facility allows for the initial maintenance of up to 150 buses, expandable to serve 250, addressing a critical need for increased public transportation services in Salt Lake and Davis Counties. Spanning just over 118,000 sf, the Central Depot District Garage encompasses a maintenance shop, bus wash, fueling center, administrative offices, and charging facilities for an eco-friendly fleet, including electric and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses. The redevelopment of the nine-acre site is poised to alleviate Salt Lake City's housing shortage, envisioning a Transit Oriented Development that aims to introduce apartments, shops, offices, museums, green spaces, and a public market to an economically challenged neighborhood.
