The James LeVoy Sorenson Center for Medical Innovation at the University of Utah is a nearly 60,000-square-foot, four-story facility that will be completed in spring 2026. Purpose-built to support the entire lifecycle of medical device development, from concept to commercialization, the center accelerates research, testing, and entrepreneurship within a unified, cutting-edge environment.

VCBO Architecture leads the design, shaping a flexible, innovation-driven facility with advanced prototyping and assembly labs, incubator spaces for university spinouts and student startups, and collaborative zones that foster interdisciplinary connection. At the heart of the design is the Discovery Operating Suite, a first-of-its-kind clinical surgery environment enabling real-world testing and refinement of breakthrough technologies.

Jacobsen Construction delivers the project with meticulous coordination and quality execution, transforming a highly specialized program into a durable, high-performance facility that meets the rigorous demands of medical innovation.

Reaveley Engineers is providing structural engineering solutions that support adaptability, specialized clinical and laboratory functions, and lasting performance. The structural system accommodates evolving research needs while ensuring clarity, reliability, and peace of mind for a facility designed to foster innovation well into the future.
