University of Utah Carolyn Tanner Irish Humanities Building
CRSA Architecture
2009 Honor Award, AIA
Designed to inspire both convocation and contemplation, the College of Humanities building at the University of Utah is a luminous, art-filled centerpiece on campus. The building houses six departments and 13 centers and programs, including the Middle East Center and Tanner Humanities Center. A transparent entrance opens into a glass-walled lobby, with even the stair treads made of glass to maximize daylight. The 185-seat auditorium, café, and lounges connect to outdoor areas, reinforcing the building’s role as a vibrant academic hub. The building features energy-efficient lighting, advanced glazing, and locally sourced, recycled materials. Reaveley collaborated closely with university stakeholders and project teams to deliver a space that reflects the humanities’ mission—supporting meaningful dialogue between self and society, now and into the future.
