Snowbird Ski Resort The Nest Restaurant Replacement
Layton Construction
The Nest at Snowbird is defined by its seamless connection to the mountain, both structurally and visually. Expansive exterior glazing captures uninterrupted views of the valley below, making the landscape an integral part of the experience. Reaveley Engineers collaborated closely with Novum Structures to integrate the exposed window system into the primary structure, meticulously addressing load transfer, building movement, and connection detailing. This coordination ensured lasting performance while maintaining a clean, refined appearance.
Mid-mountain construction introduces unique constraints, including limited access and a shortened building season. To address these, our team supported the selection of a framing system that the builders could fabricate and pitch efficiently, enclosing the building before winter. This approach enabled crews to continue interior construction through colder months and deliver on schedule.
GSBS Architects led the design, upholding the legacy of the original 1971 Nest and introducing a contemporary architectural expression. The architects extensively used glass to frame sweeping views of Gad Valley, reinforcing a strong connection to the alpine setting. The cantilevered dining hall, wrapped in glass on three sides, appears to float above the mountain, creating a striking presence that feels both light and enduring.
Layton Construction delivered the project in a challenging alpine environment, coordinating complex systems and seasonal constraints with precision. Their expertise brought the design and engineering vision to life as a durable, high-performance structure.
