Park City Marsac Municipal Building Adaptive Reuse & Seismic Retrofit of Historic 1936 Marsac School
Jacobsen Construction Company
Between 2007 and 2009, Park City undertook a complete seismic and energy retrofit of the historic Marsac Municipal Building, initially built in the 1930s as a school and later repurposed as City Hall. Reaveley provided structural engineering services for the project, which included comprehensive seismic upgrades to meet modern codes while preserving the building's historic integrity. The renovation addressed ADA accessibility, life safety, and mechanical system improvements.
A key sustainability feature was the integration of geothermal wells and solar panels, positioning the Marsac Building as one of Park City's first green municipal facilities. The project consolidated city departments into a more efficient layout, improving public access and operational flow. Completed at $7.3 million, the retrofit transformed the aging structure into a safe, functional, and energy-efficient civic hub, while maintaining its architectural character and historical significance.
