Deseret News Office Building

Comprising 82,000 sf of specialized office space, the nine-story exterior design of the Deseret News Office Building features the Golden Rectangle system created by the Greeks—a design considered to be the most visually pleasing in terms of height and width ratios.

Logistically the site was extremely tight and provided little to no staging area for the contractor. Steel framing members were delivered to the site and immediately hoisted into place.

The structural frame is comprised of 690 tons of structural steel. Lateral forces are resisted by a steel moment frame. The moment connections were designed as fully restrained welded flange plates. Ductile-steel moment framing was used to resist seismic forces.
