The new five-story facility serves as a hub for BioFire’s international operations and consolidates five Research Park buildings into one. The headquarters for this innovative diagnostics company blends office, manufacturing, and labs into a structure that complements the surrounding hillside.

The design team fit 110,000 sf of structured parking and 290,000 sf of occupied space into a 13-acre site by creatively collaborating with the general contractor. The building site drops more than 100 feet from the upper parking level down to the building entrance and a large portion of the hill was excavated and permanently shored on the north side to allow for a large loading dock. The team was tasked with an aggressive project schedule and excavation and footings began before design documents were complete.

In addition to labs for research, engineering, testing, and manufacturing central to BioFire’s mission, the building includes 26 conference rooms, six break rooms, a fitness center, five patios and a cafeteria. It was designed to meet LEED Silver standards.
